“We have had the privilege of having Ms. Elizabeth as our children's tutor through My Tech High this past school year, (2023 - 2024). Both of our children have some learning disabilities. We have Individual Education Plans for both of them. Bryan has math tutoring and started the school year meeting with Ms. Elizabeth once a week for 30 minutes. He was doing basic math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. He was very afraid off math and hated it. He did not want to advance to anything more difficult. He would explain how he did not see a very good future for himself because he could not do “hard math.” During his first session with Ms. Elizabeth she explained what they were going to be doing, that she would be teaching him some per-algebra, and how they would be learning it. He got off the computer that day and said, “I can’t do that math” and asked us to explain that to Ms. Elizabeth. My husband told him to just see how it goes and to give it a try. On Bryan’s second session he explained to Ms. Elizabeth he could not do that math and she so wonderfully explained they would go at Bryan’s pace and he would have a say in how quick they would move to another concept and he would have her constant help. She has taught him with patience, love, and trust. She has Bryan use two different colored pens to distinguish between two different concepts to solve a problem. She gives praise to him and his self worth regarding math has been tenfold. We truly are amazed at Bryan’s progress! Back in December Bryan asked if he could meet with Ms. Elizabeth twice a week! He asked! He explained that he was learning the work so well and wanted to learn more. He had a favorite teacher in first grade and said the other day, “I never thought I would find another teacher like Mrs. Baggett who gets me.” Bryan does not like change or trying new things and Ms. Elizabeth has brought out this side of Bryan with patience and love and we are incredibly grateful for her. We are pleading with My Tech High to continue to use Ms. Elizabeth as Bryan’s and Elizabeth’s tutor for the 2024-2025 school year.”
“Elizabeth was pulled out of public school in the middle of 3rd grade, 2021-2022. She could read a few words and her writing was very hard to read. She was struggling and we knew we needed to bring her home to teach her these concepts. She started with My Tech High and we could see an improvement with homeschooling one on one. We started workbooks at home and within the 2021-2022 school year she was doing much better. We were assigned Ms. Elizabeth for the 2023-2024 school year for 30 minutes a week for reading tutoring. This started with Ms. Elizabeth explaining how words are made up of consonants and vowels. She was literally teaching Elizabeth how to recognize words and to put the letters together to read them. I was amazed how well this worked and would stand off to the side and listen to Elizabeth get it! It was a slow process but she was patient and moved Elizabeth at a comfortable pace. She moved Elizabeth on to reading one line at a time and they would work together and Elizabeth was getting it. Seeing your child “get it” and seeing their confidence and self-esteem rise is an awesome feeling. Ms. Elizabeth then moved Elizabeth on to reading chapter books and let her pick her favorite series, “Whatever After” books. These books are very exciting adventure books that take the character into a fairy tale. They are not easy to read, but again, Ms. Elizabeth was not worried. She slowly moved Elizabeth into the concept of reading a line and marking the words she didn't know with a highlighter. Needless to say the page was very colorful with words Elizabeth did not know. This did not concern Ms. Elizabeth, she cheered Elizabeth on and praised her for the few she knew. This has been how they have slowly chipped away at tackling Dyslexia and reading. Elizabeth was reading one page a day and highlighting and then Ms. Elizabeth moved her to two pages a day with highlighting and just a few days ago we moved to three pages and highlighting. Hardly any of the words are highlighted. Elizabeth is beyond confident and is reading everything she sees.”
